Lace Exoskeleton is envisioned as a collective artistic project, focusing on the constructed nature of identity, and our unique ability to literally create our own unique exoskeleton. On a daily basis, we “collage” countless images, materials and symbols onto our bodies via fashion, body modification, prosthetics, and technology, using our shape-shifting prowess for practical, aesthetic, and creative purposes. By “appropriating” content from both nature and other humans, we build elaborate “lace exoskeletons” – complex, interwoven visual identities – filled with myth, memory, and personal meaning. From this perspective, our bodies become lifelong artistic projects, collaborative performances, and living, breathing conceptual art pieces.
